Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 13, 2026

This instance of Ham.Live @ N1CCK at nets.n1cck.radio is a personal, non-commercial service operated by Nick Booth (N1CCK) for the amateur-radio community. This policy describes what data the service collects and how it is used. Questions or requests: nick@n1cck.us.

What we collect

  • Account information — your email address, callsign, display name, and (optionally) a location you provide.
  • Net activity — check-ins, signal reports, roles, timestamps, and other records generated when you participate in a net, plus chat messages sent during a net.
  • Technical data — a signed session cookie (see the Cookie Policy) and routine server logs (IP address, request paths, timestamps) kept for security and troubleshooting.

How it is used

Solely to operate the service: signing you in, running nets, showing presence and check-in lists to other participants, and sending transactional email (sign-in links and net notifications). No advertising, no marketing email, and no sale or sharing of personal data for commercial purposes — ever.

Note that net participation is inherently visible to other users: your callsign, display name, and check-in activity appear to participants and followers of a net, consistent with the public nature of amateur-radio operation.

Analytics

This instance uses a self-hosted Plausible Analytics server operated by the same operator. It is cookieless, collects only aggregate usage statistics (page views, referrers, browser family), does not track you across sites, and no analytics data leaves the operator's infrastructure.

Service providers

Limited data is shared with these processors, only as needed for the feature involved:

  • Google — only if you choose "Sign in with Google" (your Google account email is used to authenticate you).
  • GetStream (Stream.io) — real-time chat; chat messages and your display identity are processed by Stream to deliver chat.
  • QRZ.com — callsigns are looked up to enrich station profiles with publicly available license data.
  • Microsoft Azure Maps — coordinates you choose to share are reverse-geocoded to a place name.
  • Email (SMTP) relay — your email address is processed by the operator's mail relay to deliver sign-in links and notifications.

The database is self-hosted on the operator's own server; no managed database provider receives your data.

Retention and deletion

  • You can delete your account at any time from the in-app Data Privacy page; deletion removes your account data from the service.
  • Inactive accounts are flagged and automatically deleted after roughly 180 days of inactivity.
  • Net logs (check-in records) are retained as part of a net's history and may be emailed to the net owner when a net closes.

Security

The service is reachable only over HTTPS, sessions use signed HTTP-only cookies, and credentials/secrets are stored in a dedicated secrets manager, not in code. No internet service can guarantee absolute security; use a unique credential where applicable.

Changes

Material changes to this policy will be reflected on this page with an updated date above. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance.
